How Do I Transfer My Mother to a Local Hospital or Treatment Center?

Question by The Unknown Avatar: How do I transfer my mother to a local hospital or treatment center?
She lives in Indiana and wants to come live with me. She’s being released from Rush Memorial Hospital in Chicago today and will start chemotherapy for cancer in a week. We are able to arrange what’s called a “Mercy Flight” to get her here but I don’t know all the logistics of transferring her Medicare/Medicaid and medical records to our state (Arkansas). I don’t even know where to start. Can anyone help?

You cannot transfer Medicaid from state to state. She has to apply where you are and prove she lives there. When you call the county let them know her condition and that she cant go in person. She can call Medicare’s main number and change her address to yours so she can get set to see a doctor who takes Medicare where you live or if she is in an Advantage plan, you have to choose the group provider plan.
